The National Air Company of Uzbekistan marks 18 years of its operation on 28 January. On this day in 1992 President Islam Karimov signed a decree on establishing O`zbekiston Havo Yo`llari (Uzbekistan Airways).

The newly elected Legislative Chamber (lower house) of the Oliy Majlis (parliament) of Uzbekistan held its first session in Tashkent on 22 January. In accordance with the legislation, the session was opened by the chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Mirza-Ulugbek Abdusalomov. He made a report on the results of the elections to the Legislative Chamber and congratulated the newly elected deputies. After approving the session agenda, the deputies elected the interim secretariat of the first session and the interim group for use of the electronic voting system.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a decree on appointing 16 members of the Senate (upper house) of the Oliy Majlis (parliament) on 22 January. Below is the list of the senators. Farmanov Alexander Kasymovich – chairman of board, director-general of Almalyk mining and smelting combine;

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov met with the First Deputy Prime Minister of Russian Federation Igor Shuvalov at Oqsaroy, 18 January. According to Head of our state, the visit constitutes a good opportunity to exchange views on not only bilateral, but also multilateral issues of primary importance in order to raise our relations to a higher level.

The Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan held a session on 22 January to consider the results of the elections to the Senate of the Oliy Majlis conducted on 20-22 January. The commission registered 84 members of the Senate elected by the joint sessions of the local councils across the country (six members from each of 12 provinces, city of Tashkent and the Republic of Karakalpakstan).
