President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov met with Richard Holbrooke, US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, at Oqsaroy on February 19, 2010. Welcoming the prominent US diplomat, the head of Uzbekistan expressed the attitude of the country toward further development of Uzbek-American relations on a constructive basis to ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received President of the Asian Development Bank Haruhiko Kuroda at Oqsaroy residence in Tashkent on 16 February. Welcoming the head of ADB, President Karimov said that Uzbekistan was actively cooperating with many international financial institutions, and that ties with ADB were especially important for the country.

The 569th anniversary of Alisher Navoi was marked on 9 February with a traditional ceremony at the National Park of Uzbekistan, which bears the name of the great poet and thinker. Poets and writers, scientists, teachers, students, representatives of culture and art spheres, government and public organizations, as well as foreign diplomats took part in the ceremony. The participants, among them State Advisor to the President H.Sultanov, Vice Prime Minister A.Aripov and hokim (mayor) of Tashkent A.Tukhtayev, laid flowers to the monument of Alisher Navoi.

The annual Oltin Qalam (Golden Pen) has been announced in Uzbekistan. The contest has been organized by the Creative Union of Journalists and the International Journalists Training Center in conjuction with the National Electronic Media Association, Independent Media Support Fund, National TV and Radio Company and the Culture and Sports Ministry.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a resolution on 27 January on the State Program “Year of harmoniously developed generation”. As reported earlier, the year 2010 was proclaimed Year of harmoniously developed generation in Uzbekistan.
