The State Art Museum

The State Fine Arts Museum of Uzbekistan was set up in 1918. The Tashkent museum was based on the private collection from 500 exhibits which includes not only painting, graphic and sculpture works but decorated furniture, porcelain, bronze and other articles of applied art.

During the period of existence the museum has traversed a big path of development, significant gathering and scientific work has been carried out, as a result of this the museum collection consists nearly from 50 000 works of Uzbek folk and imitative art, Eastern Art, Russian and West European art.

The contemporary building of the museum was built in 1974, its exposition of the museum begins with a review of decorative — applied art of Uzbekistan. This exhibition accounts for over half of all the museum exhibits. It concludes collections of carved and painted plaster cutting, wood, painted ceramics, fabrics, embroidery, gold needlework, copper embossing, jewellery, carpets, national ornament, calligraphy, miniature. Clay sculpture which was created 2000 years ago and found in the South of Uzbekistan – excellent sample of antique, classical national art, as well carved plaster panels of the XVIII century and cast fire-place from Ferghana valley are distinguished among the most valuable exhibits of this collection.
